Welcome back to The Real Rachel BS, the newsletter about peculiar things in life, created and produced by me, Rachel BS (the real one) with the help of Substack and of course, my much better half, Mat. Thank you for supporting my writing about curious and random things. In an effort to build up our readership, please welcome your neighbors and friends to subscribe as well!
I’ve rarely held jobs that were considered normal by anyone’s standards. Just about every gig I’ve had in the formal economy has also been unconventional and for the past fifteen years, I’ve primarily worked remotely. Long before Covid gave Big Business no other choice. Long before it became trendy.
Of course, I acknowledge this privilege and extenuating responsibility by being available around the clock in every time zone when needed. I accept this, without question. It is a fair trade off to keep my slipper socks on all day. To change from my night-jams to my day-jams and not having to leave the house if I don’t want to. Still, there are times when packing a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and heading to the office sounds dreamy. But only for a little while.
